Income and Poverty in DeKalb County, Alabama

While household income level experienced a decline from 2000 to 2005 in DeKalb County, Alabama, the Race/Ethnicity group that went through the most dramatic decline in the household income level was the Asian Race/Ethnicity category. This category went through a decline of 89.1 percent since 2000. In DeKalb County, Alabama according to the Decennial Census of 2000, 8.4 percent of the White Alone, 2.4 percent of Black or African American, 32 percent of the Asian alone and 1.8 percent of the Hispanic or Latino population, over the age 25, has achieved at least a Bachelors Degree.

In 2000, the Census reported that in DeKalb County, Alabama, many men in the area have reached the Less than High School category, with 36.4 percent receiving this level of education. The women in DeKalb on average have achieved a greater level of higher education (Bachelors or Higher) than the men in the area: 8 percent (Men) versus 8.4 percent (Women). A high proportion of the female population in the area has reached the Less than High School, with 36 percent of the female population achieving this education level.
