Income and Poverty in Lee County, Alabama

Black or African American householders reported household income levels that were 25.9 percent less than the overall median reported in 2000, with a reported median of $26,821. Hispanic in Lee County, Alabama , according to the 2000 census, had a median household income of $25,816, this median household income is 28.7 percent less than the reported median household income for all households in the area. In Lee County, Alabama as reported in the 2000 Census, 31.8 percent of the White Alone, 12.2 percent of Black or African American, 65.2 percent of the Asian alone and 23.8 percent of the Hispanic or Latino population, over the age 25, has achieved a Bachelors Degree or Higher.

The 2000 Decennial Census reported that in Lee County, Alabama, many men in the area have reached the Bachelors Degree or Higher category, with 30.4 percent receiving this level of education. The women in Lee on average have achieved a lower level of higher education (Bachelors or Higher) than men; 30.4 percent (Men) versus 25.6 percent (Women). The most common level of education for women in the area is High School Diploma, with 28.2 percent of the areas female population attaining this level of education.

From 2000 to 2005, the percent of the male population that can be considered highly educated has decreased by 0.8 percent. Lee County, Alabama has a population that is made of 72.6 percent White, 22.9 percent African American, 1.8 percent Asian, and 1.6 percent Hispanic.
