These values are greater than than the gain seen for the United States of 2.6 percent. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt; &lt;b&gt;&lt;font size="4"&gt;The State of California: Five-Year Percentage Decline in Employment&lt;/b&gt;&lt;/font&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The &lt;I&gt;Unclassified &lt;/I&gt; industry has lost the largest amount of employment in terms of percentage, losing 71 percent of the jobs from 2001 to 2006. The losses in the &lt;I&gt;Unclassified&lt;/I&gt; industry in California outpaced the United States in terms of percentage decline of industry employment. The &lt;I&gt;Black or African American&lt;/I&gt; race/ethnicity population category, holds the highest rate of poverty with 22.4 percent of the 2000 residents living in poverty. The &lt;I&gt;White&lt;/I&gt; Race/Ethnicity group has been least impacted by the median income decline in California, seeing a 39.7 percent increase in median income, since the values reporting the 2000 Decennial Census.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The rate of poverty in the State of California has declined by 0.9 percent from the rates reported in the Decennial Census, moving from 14.2 percent to 13.3 percent.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;When compared to other States throughout the United States, the State of California was reported to have a relatively high median household income of $55,567 (2005 Dollars). This median is 11.6 percent higher than the median household income level in the US of $49,133.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The &lt;I&gt;American Indian and Alaska Native&lt;/I&gt; headed households in California reported an income level of $42,760, this was 23 percent less than the median income level in this area. In the State of California, &lt;I&gt;White&lt;/I&gt; householders had a median income (2005 Dollars) of $59,996 as reported by the Decennial Census of 2000, which was 8 percent greater than the median in the year 2000. The &lt;I&gt;Asian&lt;/I&gt; householders in the area have reported their median household incomes at $64,778. The women in the California have on average achieved a lower level of higher education &lt;I&gt;(Bachelors Degree or Higher)&lt;/I&gt; than the male population-- 31.2 percent (Men) versus 28  percent (Women). The most common level of education for women in the area is &lt;i&gt; Some College or Associates Degree&lt;/i&gt; category, with 29.8 percent of the areas female population attaining this level of education.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;From 2000 to 2005, the percent of the male population that can be considered highly educated has increased by 2.2 percent. By the year 2005, 31.2 percent of the total male population, in the area, has obtained at least a Bachelors Degree. From 2000 to 2005, the percent of women with a Bachelors or Higher has increased by a total of 3.2 percent. By the year 2005, a total of 28 percent of the female population having received at least a Bachelors Degree.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;California may to understood as having a highly-educated working age population, with 29.6 percent of the population (+25) having received at least a Bachelors Degree, as reported in the 2005 American Community Survey.
