Higher Education in Hartford County, Connecticut

Hartford County, Connecticut can be considered to have a highly-educated 2000 population, with 29.6 percent of the population (+25) having received at least a Bachelors Degree, as reported in the Decennial Census of 2000. Hartford was reported to have a lower percent of highly educated individuals than the State of Connecticut's proportion of 31.4 percent and a higher percent than the average across the nation of 24.4 percent.

Since the year 2000, Hartford has increased in the percent of the total population (+25) with a BA or Higher. The portion of this population has grown by 3.2 percent to a total of 32.8 in 2005, according to the American Community Survey. The 2005 proportion of highly educated population is less than the State of Connecticut percent of 35 and greater than the United States percent of 27.2.

The female population in Hartford have achieved a lower level of higher education (Bachelors Degree or Higher) than the male population-- 32.2 percent (Men) versus 27.4 percent (Women). The most common level of education for women in the area is High School Diploma, with 29.6 percent of the female population achieving this education level.

In Hartford County, Connecticut as reported in the 2000 Census, 32.6 percent of the White Alone, 13.2 percent of Black or African American, 51 percent of the Asian alone and 10 percent of the Hispanic or Latino population (over 25) has obtained a Bachelors Degree or Higher.
