Higher Education in the State of Connecticut

The American Community Survey reported that in the State of Connecticut, the largest educational attainment category for men is the Bachelors Degree or Higher category, with 36.2 percent achieving this level. The female population in the Connecticut have achieved a lower level of higher education (Bachelors or Higher) than men -- 36.2 percent (Men) versus 33.6 percent (Women). The largest educational attainment category for women is Bachelors Degree or Higher category, with 33.6 percent of the women population in the area achieving this level of education.

From the year 2000, the State of Connecticut has increased in the total percent of the over 25 population having a Bachelors Degree or Higher. This population group has grown by 3.6 percent to a total of 35 percent in 2005, as reported by the American Community Survey. The proportion of the 2005 population having received at least a BA is greater than the United States percent of 27.2.

According to the 2000 Census Decennial, the counties in the State of Connecticut range, in terms of percent of population (over 25) with a Bachelors Degree or Higher, from a high of 39.8 percent in Fairfield County to a low of 19 percent in Windham County.

Between 2000 and 2005, the percent of the male population that can be understood as highly educated has increased by 3.2 percent. By 2005, 36.2 percent of the total male population, in the area, has obtained at least a Bachelors Degree. From 2000 to 2005, the percent of women with a Bachelors or Higher has increased by a total of 4.0 percent. By the year 2005, a total of 33.6 percent of the total female population achieved this high level of education.
