Higher Education in Tolland County, Connecticut

In Tolland County, Connecticut according to the Decennial Census of 2000, 32.4 percent of the White Alone, 21 percent of Black or African American, 72 percent of the Asian alone and 21.6 percent of the Hispanic or Latino population, over the age 25, has achieved at least a Bachelors Degree.

Tolland County, Connecticut can be considered to have a very highly-educated working age population, with 32.8 percent of the over 25 years old population having a Bachelors Degree or Higher, according to the 2000 Decennial Census. Tolland was reported to have a higher percent of highly educated individuals than the State of Connecticut's proportion of 31.4 percent and a higher percent than the national average of 24.4 percent.

From 2000, Tolland has increased in the population percent with a Bachelors of Higher. This population percent has grown by 1.2 percent to a total of 34 in 2005, according to the American Community Survey. The 2005 proportion of highly educated population is less than the porportion in the State of Connecticut percent of 35 and greater than the average US percent of 27.2.

According to the 2000 Decennial Census in Tolland County, Connecticut, a high proportion of the male population in the area have reached the Bachelors Degree or Higher category, with 33.6 percent obtaining this level of education. The women in Tolland have attainment on average a lower level of higher education (Bachelors Degree or Higher) than the male population-- 33.6 percent (Men) versus 32 percent (Women). The largest educational attainment category for women is Bachelors Degree or Higher, with 32 percent of the women population in the area achieving this level of education.

From the years 2000 to 2005, the proportion of the male population that could be considered highly educated has increased by 2.4 percent. By 2005, 36.4 percent of total male population (over 25), in this area, held at least a Bachelors Degree. At the same time, the percent of women (over 25) holding a BA or higher has decreased by a total of 0.2 percent. By the year 2005, a total of 31.8 percent of the female population had achieved this level of education.
