This median is 4.7 percent lower than the median household income in the United States of $49,133.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;I&gt;Black or African American&lt;/I&gt; headed households had median income levels that were 24 percent less than the overall reported level in 2000, with a reported median of $35,659. &lt;I&gt;Hispanic&lt;/I&gt; households in District of Columbia, as reported in 2000, had a median household income of $42,303, this median is 9.9 percent less than the areas median income level for all households. The &lt;I&gt;American Indian and Alaska Native&lt;/I&gt; headed households in District of Columbia reported a median household income of $42,540, which was 9.4 percent less than the median income level in this area.
