The Independent artists, writers, and performers industry has experienced the largest percentage growth, expanding by 663.2 percent from the 2001 (Q2) to the 2006 (Q2). Brevard County One-Year Percentage Decline in Employment

The Nonscheduled air transportation industry has lost the biggest percent of jobs, losing 72.5 percent from 2005 (Q2) to 2006 (Q2). The losses of the area have declined faster than the industry sector has felt in the State of Florida, where the industry sector experienced a loss of 13.2 percent. The losses in the Nonscheduled air transportation industry in Brevard County outpaced the losses of nation as a whole in the industry. In this time period, the nation lost 0.9 in percent of workers in the Nonscheduled air transportation industry.

Income and Poverty in Brevard County, Florida

Compared to counties across the United States, Brevard County accounted a relatively high median income for all households of $46,916 (2005 Dollars). This median is 3.2 percent higher than the median in Florida of $45,418 and the median is 4.7 percent lower than the median in the US, which is $49,133.

The poverty rate in Brevard County, Florida has increased by 0.6 percent from the levels reported in the Decennial Census of 2000, moving from 9.5 percent to 10.1 percent.

Higher Education in Brevard County, Florida

From 2000 to 2005, the percent of the male population that can be considered highly educated has increased by 3.8 percent. By 2005, 31.8 percent of the total male population, in the area, has obtained at least a Bachelors Degree. From 2000 to 2005, the percent of women with a Bachelors or Higher has increased by a total of 2.6 percent. By 2005, a total of 22 percent of the women in the population had received a Bachelors Degree or Higher.

Since 2000, Brevard has increased in the population percent with a Bachelors of Higher. This population percent has grown by 3.2 percent to a total of 26.8 in 2005, as reported by the American Community Survey. The poporation of the 2005 population having received at least a BA is greater than the porportion in the State of Florida percent of 25.2 and less than the national percent of 27.2.

Brevard County, Florida is made up of a highly-educated population, with 23.6 percent of the population (+25) having received at least a Bachelors Degree, as reported in the Decennial Census of 2000. Brevard was reported to have a higher percent of the population with at least a Bachelors than the State of Florida's proportion of 22.4 percent and a lower percent than the average across the nation of 24.4 percent.

The 2000 Decennial Census reported that in Brevard County, Florida, the most common level of education achieved in the area for the male population is the Some College or Associates Degree category, with 33 percent reaching this education level. The female population in Brevard on average have achieved a lower level of higher education (Bachelors or Higher) than men; 28 percent (Men) versus 19.4 percent (Women). A high proportion of the female population in the area has reached the Some College or Associates Degree, with 34.8 percent of the areas female population attaining this level of education.

In Brevard County, Florida according the 2000 Decennial Census, 24.4 percent of the White Alone, 12 percent of Black or African American, 37.8 percent of the Asian alone and 23 percent of the Hispanic or Latino (+25) has achieved at least a Bachelors Degree.

Demographic Profile for Brevard County, Florida

Brevard County, Florida had a population that was estimated at 531,250 for the year 2005. The total population has increased sharply, since the population in 2000 of 477,830. This growth shows an increase of 11.2 percent. Brevard ranks 11 of 67 counties when calculating total change in population for Florida and the county ranks 52 of 3,141 counties when analyzing total county population change across the nation.

Since the year 2000, a medium-high amount of people migrated to Brevard from another country. The international migration into Brevard totals 0.7 percent of the total international migration into the State of Florida. This percent of immigration can be considered medium-high when analyzed against the base population in the year 2005 and compared to other counties across the US.

When calculating the total land area, Brevard spans a total of 1018 square miles. The land areas has a high population density of 522 persons per square mile, in 2005. From 2000, the area has seen an increase in the median age, when it was 41.5 years old. With 20.9 percent of the population in 2005 being comprised of children and youth younger than 18, Brevard can be described as being made up of a medium-low proportion of youths. The working age population group (18-64) has a medium-low representation within the estimated 2005 area population, making up 59 percent of the population within the age category. People 65 years old and older make up 20.1 percent of the total population in the area. Compared to other counties in the US, this represents a relatively high proportion of the population.

Brevard County, Florida has a population that is comprised of 81.4 percent White, 9 percent African American, 1.8 percent Asian, and 6.1 percent Hispanic. The area population base can be described as having a high amount of racial and ethnic diversity, with 16.9 percent of the population made up of minorities. This is less than the State of Florida percent of 36.5. Since 2000, Brevard has increased the percent of minority makeup when 14.5 percent of the population were minorities.
