The Social advocacy organizations industry has lost the largest amount of employment in terms of percentage, losing 72.6 percent of the jobs from 2005 to 2006. Income and Poverty in Broward County, Florida

Contrasted against to other counties (or parishes) throughout the US, Broward County, Florida can be recognized as having a medium-low poverty rate amid the residents with a poverty rate of 11.5 percent with a family income under the 1999 poverty level. Higher Education in Broward County, Florida

In Broward County, Florida according the 2000 Decennial Census, 26.8 percent of the White Alone, 14.8 percent of Black or African American, 38.8 percent of the Asian alone and 23 percent of the Hispanic or Latino population, over the age 25, has achieved at least a Bachelors Degree.

From the year 2000, Broward has increased in the percent of the population that is over the age of 25 with a BA or Higher. This population cohort has grown by 4.2 percent to a total of 28.8 in 2005, according to the American Community Survey. The 2005 proportion of highly educated population is greater than the 2005 State of Florida percent of 25.2 and greater than the national percent of 27.2.

In 2000, the Census reported that in Broward County, Florida, a high proportion of the male population in the area have reached the Some College or Associates Degree category, with 28.6 percent receiving this level of education. The women in Broward on average have achieved a lower level of higher education (Bachelors or Higher) than the men in the area: 27.6 percent (Men) versus 21.8 percent (Women). The most common level of education for women in the area is High School Diploma, with 30.4 percent of the female population achieving this education level.

From 2000 to 2005, the percent of male population that is highly educated has increased by 3.4 percent. By 2005, 31.4 percent of area's male population (+25) achieved a BA or Higher. During the same period, the percent of women (+25) that have earned a BA or higher has increased by a total of 4.6 percent. Demographic Profile for Broward County, Florida

In terms of total land area, Broward spans a total of 1205 square miles. The county has a very high density of 1,475 persons per square mile. Other counties with similar densities in the US include: -- more densely populated -- Jefferson, LA (1,477 per sq. mile ), Honolulu, HI (1,509 per sq. mile ), Mecklenburg, NC (1,513 per sq. mile ), -- less densely populated -- Essex, MA (1,475 per sq. mile ), Douglas, NE (1,471 per sq. mile ), Fairfield, CT (1,443 per sq. mile ).

Since 2000, a very high amount of people migrated to Broward from another country. The international migration into Broward accounts for 15.5 percent of all immigration into Florida. This percent of immigration can be considered very high when compared to international migration per 2005 population.

Broward County, Florida had a population that was estimated at 1,777,638 in 2005. The total population has increased sharply, since the population in 2000 of 1,632,662. This growth denotes an increase of 8.9 percent. Broward ranks 1 of 67 counties in terms of population growth in Florida and the county ranks 9 of 3,141 counties by growth in county population in the United States.

Broward County, Florida has a population that is comprised of 49.9 percent White, 23.9 percent African American, 2.9 percent Asian, and 21.9 percent Hispanic. The population mix can be considered to have a very high level of diversity in terms of race and ethnicity, with 48.7 percent of the population made up of minorities. This is greater than the State of Florida percent of 36.5. Since 2000, Broward has increased the percent of minority makeup when 40.5 percent of the population was made up of minorities.

In 2005, the Census Bureau estimated the median age in Broward County, Florida to be 38.6 years of age. The median in Broward is less than the median in Florida of 39.5. From 2000, the area has seen an increase in this median, when at that time it was 37.8 years old. The 18 to 64 years old population group has a medium-low presence of the 2005 population base, with 61.5 percent of the population makes up this age category. The retirement (65 and over) age group comprises 14 percent of the total population in the area. Compared to other counties in the US, this represents a medium-low proportion of the population.

Housing Report for Broward County, Florida

Broward County recorded a median home value in 2005 of $245,200, reported by the American Community Survey. This median is greater than the overall Florida 2005 median home value of $189,500 and greater than median home value of $167,500 for the rest of the nation in that year.
