Income and Poverty in Dixie County, Florida

Black or African American headed households had median income levels that were 40.8 percent less than the total 2000 reported median, with a their median reported to be $18,078. The American Indian and Alaska Native headed households in Dixie County reported an income level of $16,088, this was 47.3 percent less than the median income level in this area. Dixie County, Florida has a less-educated 2000 population, with 6.8 percent of the over 25 years old population having a Bachelors Degree or Higher, according to the 2000 Decennial Census. Dixie was reported to have a lower percent of the population with at least a Bachelors than the State of Florida's proportion of 22.4 percent and a lower percent than the average across the nation of 24.4 percent.

Demographic Profile for Dixie County, Florida

In 2005, the Census Bureau estimated the median age in Dixie County, Florida to be 40.7 years old. The median in Dixie is greater than the median age in Florida of 39.5. Since the year 2000, the area has witnessed a decline in the median age, when it was 40.8 years of age. A total of 20.9 percent of the 2005 population being made up of children and youth younger than 18, Dixie can be understood as being made up of a medium-low proportion of youths. The working age population group (18-64) has a medium-low representation within the population, making up 61.1 percent of the population within the age group.
