Income and Poverty in Sarasota County, Florida

In Sarasota County, Florida as reported in the 2000 Census, 28 percent of the White Alone, 10.6 percent of Black or African American, 34.4 percent of the Asian alone and 19.6 percent of the Hispanic or Latino population, over the age 25, has achieved at least a Bachelors Degree.

The 2000 Decennial Census reported that in Sarasota County, Florida, the largest educational attainment category for men is the Bachelors Degree or Higher category, with 31.8 percent obtaining this level of education. The women in Sarasota have on average achieved a lower level of higher education (Bachelors or Higher) than men -- 31.8 percent (Men) versus 23.8 percent (Women). The largest educational attainment category for women is High School Diploma, with 33.2 percent of the women population in the area achieving this level of education.

Since 2000, Sarasota has increased in the population percent with a Bachelors of Higher. This population percent has grown by 1.8 percent to a total of 29.2 in 2005, as reported by the American Community Survey. When measuring the total land area, Sarasota spans a total of 572 square miles. This area has a high density of 641 persons per square mile.
