Income and Poverty in Bartow County, Georgia

While the median household income saw a decline in the last five year in Bartow County, Georgia, the Race/Ethnicity group that went through the most dramatic decline in median household income was the Black or African American Race/Ethnicity category. This group experienced a decline of 16.3 percent from 2000 to 2005. Higher Education in Bartow County, Georgia

Since the year 2000, Bartow has increased in the percent of the population that is over the age of 25 with a BA or Higher. This population cohort has grown by 1.8 percent to a total of 16 in 2005. According to the American Community Survey, the proporation of the population in 2005 with a BA or Higher is less than the porportion of Georgia percent of 27.2 and less than the average US percent of 27.2.

Between 2000 and 2005, the percent of the male population that can be understood as highly educated has increased by 1.6 percent. In the year 2005, 15.6 percent of area's male population, over the age 25, achieved a Bachelors Degree or Higher. At the same time, the percent of women, over the age 25, holding at least a Bachelors Degree has increased by a total of 2.2 percent. By 2005, a total of 16.4 percent of the total female population achieved this high level of education.

In 2000, the Census reported that in Bartow County, Georgia, a high proportion of the male population in the area have reached the High School Diploma category, with 32.2 percent achieving this level. The female population in Bartow on average have achieved a greater level of higher education (Bachelors or Higher) than the men in the area: 14 percent (Men) versus 14.2 percent (Women). Many of the women in the area achieving a High School Diploma, with 36.2 percent of the female population achieving this education level.

Bartow County, Georgia had an estimated population of 89,229 for the year 2005. The total population has increased very sharply, from the population in the year 2000 of 76,718. This growth denotes an increase of 16.3 percent. Bartow ranks 18 of 159 counties when analyzing total population change in Georgia and the county ranks 276 of 3,141 counties when analyzing total county population change across the nation.

By measuring total land area, Bartow spans a total area of 459 square miles. The county has a medium-low average population density of 194 persons per square mile.
