Income and Poverty in Newton County, Georgia

The households that were headed by an American Indian and Alaska Native individual in Newton County had a median household income level of $49,176, this median was 6.3 percent less than the median income level in this area. In Newton County, Georgia White headed households reported household income (in 2005 Dollars) of $55,488 as reported by the Decennial Census of 2000, which was 5.7 percent greater than the median income in 2000. Between 2000 and 2005, the percent of the male population that can be understood as highly educated has increased by 3.6 percent. By 2005, 18.6 percent of total male population (over 25), in this area, held at least a Bachelors Degree. Newton County, Georgia had a population that was estimated at 86,713 in the year 2005. The population has increased very sharply, since its 2000 population of 62,924. This growth represents an increase of 37.8 percent. Newton ranks 10 of 159 counties by growth in total population in Georgia and the county ranks 141 of 3,141 counties by growth in county population in the United States.

Newton County, Georgia has a population base that is comprised of 62.8 percent White, 31.8 percent African American, 1.1 percent Asian, and 3.2 percent Hispanic.
