The &lt;I&gt;American Indian and Alaska Native&lt;/I&gt; householders in Hawaii reported an income level of $49,298, which was 15.4 percent less than the median income level in this area. In the State of Hawaii, &lt;I&gt;White&lt;/I&gt; householders had a median income (2005 Dollars) of $57,828 according to the Decennial Census of 2000, which was 0.8 percent less than the median household income in 2000.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;While household income level experienced a decline since 2000 in the State of Hawaii, the Race/Ethnicity group that went through the most dramatic decline in the household income level was the &lt;I&gt;American Indian and Alaska Native&lt;/I&gt; category. This category saw a decline of 3.1 percent since the year 2000. The &lt;I&gt;White&lt;/I&gt; Race/Ethnicity group has been least impacted by the median income decline in Hawaii, seeing a 26.2 percent increase in median household income from 2000 to 2005.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The poverty rate in the State of Hawaii has declined by 0.9 percent since the amount published in 2000, moving from 10.7 percent to 9.8 percent.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Compared to other States throughout the nation, the State of Hawaii accounted a relatively high median household income of $58,289 (2005 Dollars). The State of Hawaii ranks 46 of 46 states when comparing the &lt;I&gt;&lt;B&gt;decline&lt;/B&gt;&lt;/I&gt; in median household income in the United States.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;When compared to other States across the United States, the State of Hawaii may be understood as having a medium-low rate of poverty among the people, accounting a rate of 10.7 percent with a family income under the 1999 poverty level. The &lt;I&gt;American Indian and Alaska Native&lt;/I&gt; race/ethnicity population category, holds the highest rate of poverty with 18.2 percent of the 2000 population living in poverty. The State of Hawaii was reported to have a higher percent of population with a BA or Higher percent than United States proportion of 27.2 percent.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;According to the 2005 American Community Survey in the State of Hawaii, many men in the area have reached the &lt;i&gt;High School Diploma&lt;/i&gt; category, with 31.4 percent receiving this level of education. The women in the Hawaii have attainment on average a lower level of higher education &lt;I&gt;(Bachelors Degree or Higher)&lt;/I&gt; than the male population-- 28.2 percent (Men) versus 27.6  percent (Women). A high proportion of the female population in the area has reached the &lt;i&gt; High School Diploma&lt;/i&gt; category, with 29.6 percent of the women population in the area achieving this level of education.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;From 2000 to 2005, the percent of the male population that can be considered highly educated has increased by 1.2 percent. As reported in 2005, 28.2 percent of total male population (over 25), in this area, held at least a Bachelors Degree. At the same time, the percent of women (over 25) holding a BA or higher has increased by a total of 2.2 percent.
