Income and Poverty in Ada County, Idaho

While household income level experienced a decline since 2000 in Ada County, Idaho, the Race/Ethnicity category that saw the sharpest decline in median income was the American Indian and Alaska Native category. This category saw a decline of 25.8 percent since 2000. The Asian population group was least impacted by the household income decline in Ada County, encountering a 11.4 percent increase in household income, since the reported levels in 2000.

Higher Education in Ada County, Idaho

Since the year 2000, Ada has increased in the percent of the total population (+25) with a BA or Higher. The portion of this population has grown by 1.6 percent to a total of 32.8 in 2005. The American Community Survey reports that the proporation of the 2005 population that is highly educated is greater than the 2005 State of Idaho percent of 23.4 and greater than the United States percent of 27.2.

In Ada County, Idaho according the 2000 Decennial Census, 31.4 percent of the White Alone, 27.2 percent of Black or African American, 42 percent of the Asian alone and 16.2 percent of the Hispanic or Latino population, over the age 25, has achieved at least a Bachelors Degree.

Ada County, Idaho is made up of a highly-educated population, with 31.2 percent of the population (+25) having received a BA or higher, as reported the 2000 Decennial Census. Ada counted a higher percent of highly educated individuals than the State of Idaho's proportion of 21.6 percent and a higher percent than United States proportion of 24.4 percent.

From the years 2000 to 2005, the proportion of the male population that could be considered highly educated has increased by 1.4 percent. By 2005, 36.4 percent of area's male population, over the age 25, achieved a Bachelors Degree or Higher. At the same time, the percent of women, over the age 25, holding at least a Bachelors Degree has increased by a total of 1.6 percent. In 2005, the Census Bureau estimated the median age in Ada County, Idaho to be 34.7 years of age. The median age in Ada is greater than the median age in Idaho of 34.6. From 2000, the area has seen an increase in this median, when at that time it was 32.8 years of age. With a total of 25.5 percent of the population in the year 2005 being made up of individuals less than 18 years old, Ada can be understood as having a medium-high proportion of youths. The 18 to 64 years old population group has a relatively high representation within the estimated 2005 area population, making up 65.1 percent of the population makes up this age category.
