Gem County One-Year Industry Employment Change

Total industry employment has increased by 11.3 percent from 2005 (2nd Quarter). These figures are greater than growth in Idaho, which went through a gain of 5.9 percent since the 2nd Quarter of 2005. The gains in the area were greater than than the gain experienced overall in the US of 2.0 percent.

These have declined faster than the industry has seen in the Idaho, where the industry felt a gain of 17.5 percent. The losses in the Architectural and engineering services industry in Gem County outpaced the US in terms of percent of decline of industry employment. The US gained 5.5 percent in terms of employees in the Architectural and engineering services industry.

Income and Poverty in Gem County, Idaho

When put side-by-side with other counties (or parishes) throughout the United States, Gem County, Idaho can be understood to have a medium-high poverty rate amongst the population, with a poverty rate of 13.1 percent of the individuals existing in families with incomes under the poverty level in 1999. Higher Education in Gem County, Idaho

The 2000 Decennial Census reported that in Gem County, Idaho, many men in the area have reached the High School Diploma category, with 33.4 percent receiving this level of education. The women in Gem have on average achieved a lower level of higher education (Bachelors or Higher) than the men in the area: 13 percent (Men) versus 9.8 percent (Women). Many of the women in the area achieving a High School Diploma, with 36.6 percent of women in the area reaching this education level.

Demographic Profile for Gem County, Idaho

From 2000, a medium-high number of individuals have migrated to Gem from another country. The international migration into Gem accounts for 0.9 percent of the total migration into the State of Idaho. This level of international migration can be considered medium-high when analyzed against immigration per population in 2005.

In 2005, the Census Bureau estimated the median age in Gem County, Idaho to be 38.4 years of age. The median in Gem is greater than the median age for the State of Idaho of 34.6. Since the year 2000, the area has witnessed an increase in the median age, at that time the median was 37.6 years old. This is less than the State of Idaho percent of 10.5. Since 2000, Gem has increased the level of diversity when 7.3 percent of the total population were minorities.

Gem County, Idaho had a total estimated population of 16,273 in 2005. The estimated population has increased sharply, since the 2000 total population of 15,219. This growth represents an increase of 6.9 percent. Gem ranks 15 of 44 counties when analyzing total population change in Idaho and the county ranks 1,080 of 3,141 counties when analyzing total county population change across the nation.
