Income and Poverty in Teton County, Idaho

The American Indian and Alaska Native headed households in Teton County reported an income level of $48,750, which was 0.7 percent less than the areas median level for all households. In Teton County, Idaho White householders had a median income (2005 Dollars) of $49,908 as reported by the Decennial Census of 2000, which was 1.6 percent greater than the median in the year 2000. Demographic Profile for Teton County, Idaho

Teton County, Idaho had a population that was estimated at 7,467 in 2005. The total population has increased very sharply, from the population in the year 2000 of 6,108. This growth signifies an increase of 22.2 percent. Teton ranks 13 of 44 counties in terms of population growth in Idaho and the county ranks 980 of 3,141 counties by growth in county population in the United States.

In terms of total land area, Teton encompasses a total area of 450 square miles. The county has a very low average area density of 17 persons per square mile. Similar counties in the US, in terms of density, include: -- more densely populated -- Nemaha, NE (17 per sq. mile ), Randolph, GA (17 per sq. mile ), Maries, MO (17 per sq. mile ), -- less densely populated -- Stevens, WA (17 per sq. mile ), Cuming, NE (17 per sq. mile ), Garfield, CO (17 per sq. mile ).

Since 2000, Teton has increased the level of diversity when 11.8 percent of the people were minorities.

The U.S. Census Bureau, in the year 2005, estimated a median age in Teton County, Idaho to be 33.3 years of age. The median age in Teton is less than the median in Idaho of 34.6. From 2000, the area has seen an increase in the median age, when it was 31.1 years of age. With a total of 30.1 percent of the population in the year 2005 being made up of individuals less than 18 years old, Teton can be understood as having a relatively high percent of individuals under 18. The working age population group (18-64) has a medium-high representation within the population, making up 64.2 percent of the population makes up this age category. The retirement (65 and over) age group comprises 5.8 percent of the population in the area.
