Higher Education in the Danville, IL Metro Area

Danville, IL Metro Area is made up of a less-educated population, with 11.6 percent of the over 25 years old population having a Bachelors Degree or Higher, according to the 2005 American Community Survey. The Danville MSA counted a lower percent of population with high education level than the State of Illinois's proportion of 29.2 percent and a lower percent than the average across the nation of 27.2 percent.

From 2000 to 2005, the percent of the male population that can be considered highly educated has decreased by 19.4 percent. As reported in 2005, 11.6 percent of area's male population, over the age 25, achieved a Bachelors Degree or Higher. The women in the Danville metro area have achieved a lower level of higher education (Bachelors Degree or Higher) than the male population-- 11.6 percent (Men) versus 11.8 percent (Women). A high proportion of the female population in the area has reached the High School Diploma category, with 43.8 percent of the women population in the area achieving this level of education.

The Danville metro area had a population of 82,344 for the year 2005. The total population has decreased, from the population in the year 2000 of 83,826. The decline shows a decrease of -1.8 percent. Danville ranks 8 of 9 MSAs when calculating total change in population for Illinois and the metro area ranks 325 of 361 metro areas when calculating the total change in MSA population across the US.

When calculating the total land area, the Danville metro area spans a total area of 899 square miles. The MSA has a medium-low density of 92 persons per square mile.
