Income and Poverty in DeKalb County, Illinois

Hispanic households in DeKalb County, Illinois recorded a median income of $40,971, this median household income is 23.6 percent less than reported value of the areas total household median income for all households. In DeKalb County, Illinois White headed households reported household income (in 2005 Dollars) of $56,034 according to the Decennial Census of 2000, which was 4.5 percent greater than the median in 2000. Higher Education in DeKalb County, Illinois

Since the year 2000, De Kalb has increased in the percent of the total population (+25) with a BA or Higher. The portion of this population has grown by 3.8 percent to a total of 30.6 in 2005. The American Community Survey reports that the proporation of the 2005 population that is highly educated is greater than the 2005 State of Illinois percent of 29.2 and greater than the average US percent of 27.2.

DeKalb County, Illinois has a highly-educated population of the working age, with 26.8 percent of the population over 25 years old having received at least a Bachelors Degree, according to the Decennial Census of 2000. In 2000, the Census reported that in DeKalb County, Illinois, many men in the area have reached the Some College or Associates Degree category, with 30.2 percent receiving this level of education. The women in De Kalb have on average achieved a lower level of higher education (Bachelors Degree or Higher) than the male population-- 28 percent (Men) versus 25.8 percent (Women). Many of the women in the area achieving a Some College or Associates Degree, with 31.2 percent of women in the area reaching this education level.

From 2000 to 2005, the percent of male population that is highly educated has increased by 2.6 percent. By the year 2005, 30.6 percent of total male population (over 25), in this area, held at least a Bachelors Degree. At the same time, the percent of women (over 25) holding a BA or higher has increased by a total of 5.0 percent. By the year 2005, a total of 30.8 percent of the total female population achieved this high level of education.

When measuring the total land area, De Kalb covers a total land area of 634 square miles. The county has a medium-low average area density of 154 persons per square mile.
