Income and Poverty in McHenry County, Illinois

The rate of poverty in McHenry County, Illinois has increased by 1.2 percent from the rates reported in the Decennial Census, moving from 3.7 percent to 4.9 percent.

While the median household income saw a decline during the period of 2000 to 2005 in McHenry County, Illinois, the Race/Ethnicity group that experienced the largest decline in the household income level was the Hispanic Race/Ethnicity category. This group experienced a decline of 13.6 percent since the year 2000. The American Indian and Alaska Native Race/Ethnicity group has been least impacted by the median income decline in McHenry County, experiencing a 12.1 percent increase in median income, since the values reported in the 2000 Decennial Census.

Higher Education in McHenry County, Illinois

In McHenry County, Illinois as reported in the Census of the year 2000, 27.8 percent of the White Alone, 46.6 percent of Black or African American, 55.8 percent of the Asian alone and 9.2 percent of the Hispanic or Latino population (over 25) has obtained a Bachelors Degree or Higher.

McHenry County, Illinois has a highly-educated population of the working age, with 27.8 percent of the over 25 years old population having a Bachelors Degree or Higher, according to the 2000 Decennial Census. McHenry is reported having a higher percent of individuals with higher educations than the State of Illinois's proportion of 26 percent and a higher percent than the average across the nation of 24.4 percent.

Between 2000 and 2005, the percent of the male population that can be understood as highly educated has increased by 1.2 percent. As reported in 2005, 31.2 percent of area's male population, over the age 25, achieved a Bachelors Degree or Higher. At the same time, the percent of women, over the age 25, holding at least a Bachelors Degree has increased by a total of 3.4 percent. By 2005, a total of 28.8 percent of the total female population achieved this high level of education.

In 2000, the Census reported that in McHenry County, Illinois, many men in the area have reached the Some College or Associates Degree category, with 31.8 percent reaching this education level. The female population in McHenry have achieved a lower level of higher education (Bachelors or Higher) than men -- 30.2 percent (Men) versus 25.4 percent (Women). The largest educational attainment category for women is Some College or Associates Degree, with 34.2 percent of the areas female population attaining this level of education.

From 2000, McHenry has increased in the total percent of the over 25 population having a Bachelors Degree or Higher. This population group has grown by 2.2 percent to a total of 30 in 2005. The American Community Survey reports that the proporation of the 2005 population that is highly educated is greater than the State of Illinois percent of 29.2 and greater than the US percent of 27.2.

In McHenry County, the real estate market was made up of 109,477 housing units in the year 2005. This represents a growth in housing units, adding in all 12,926 residential units since 2001, or 13.4 percent.

Employment Report for McHenry County, Illinois -- Annual 2005 Industry Summary

Manufacturing between the years 2001 and 2005, saw the greatest loss in employment in McHenry County. The industry was hit with a loss of 2,193 jobs, or 10.3 percent of employment in the sector. These losses made up 97.6 percent of the total jobs loss in the County.

Management of companies and enterprises has had the highest level of job growth from 2001-2005 in McHenry County, increasing by 533.3 percent.
