Demographic Profile for Putnam County, Illinois

Putnam County, Illinois had a population of 6,094 in 2005. The estimated population has increased, since its 2000 population of 6,090. This growth shows an increase of 0.1 percent. Putnam ranks 41 of 102 counties when analyzing total population change in Illinois and the county ranks 1,924 of 3,141 counties when analyzing total county population change across the nation.

Putnam County, Illinois has a population base that is comprised of 94.8 percent White, 0.7 percent African American, 0.4 percent Asian, and 3.8 percent Hispanic. The Manufacturing industry decreased the most in percent of total employment in Putnam County since the year 2001. The industry went from accounting for 49.4 percent of total employment for the year 2001 to 37.6 percent in the year 2005.

Wholesale trade is the industry with the largest change in employment since the year 2001 in Putnam County, with an employment growth of 65.1 percent.
