Employment Report for Redwood County, Minnesota -- Annual 2005 Industry Summary

In Redwood County, Manufacturing, Retail Trade, and the Wholesale trade industries are the largest employment industries. The Manufacturing provides the most jobs and contributes 18.4 percent of all jobs throughout the county, totaling 804 employees. The Retail Trade and Wholesale trade sectors account for 18 and 8.4 percent of all employment.

Manufacturing has the largest businesses in Redwood County. The industry averages 27 jobs per establishment, which is less than the industry's national average of 39 and less than the State of Minnesota typical size of 39 for the Manufacturing industry.

In other words, the percent of total jobs in the Wholesale trade sector is 1.61 times greater than the US average, showing signs that Redwood County produces more than its local requirement of products and/or services of Wholesale trade.

Manufacturing saw the largest loss of employment between the years 2001-2005 in Redwood County. The industry was hit with a loss of 156 employees during the period, or 16.3 percent of employment in the sector. These losses made up 46.6 percent of all county employment losses since 2001.

Arts, entertainment, and recreation is an attractive industry due to its high level of job growth since the year 2001 in Redwood County, with an industry growth of 13.2 percent.
