Demographic Profile for Clearwater County, Minnesota

Since 2000, a very low amount of people migrated to Clearwater internationally. The migration from outside the US into Clearwater accounts for 0 percent of immigration into the State of Minnesota. This percent of international migration is very low when analyzed against immigration per population in 2005.

Clearwater County, Minnesota has a population that is comprised of 88.7 percent White, 0.3 percent African American, 0.3 percent Asian, and 0.9 percent Hispanic. The population mix can be considered to have a very modest level of diversity in terms of race and ethnicity, with 1.5 percent of minorities in the 2005 population base. This is less than the State of Minnesota percent of 11.2. Since 2000, Clearwater has increased in diversity when 1.3 percent of the people were minorities.

In terms of total land area, Clearwater covers a total land area of 995 square miles. This area has a very low average population density of 9 persons per square mile, in 2005. With a total of 23.3 percent of the 2005 population being made up of children and youth younger than 18, Clearwater can be understood as having a medium-high proportion of youths. The working age population group (18-64) has a medium-low representation within the population, making up 59.6 percent of the population falling in this age category. The retirement (65 and over) group makes up 17.1 percent of the population. When compared to other counties in the United States, this represents a medium-high proportion of the area population base.

Clearwater County, Minnesota had a total estimated population of 8,476 in 2005. The total population has increased, since its 2000 population of 8,383. This growth shows an increase of 1.1 percent. Clearwater ranks 45 of 87 counties in terms of population growth in Minnesota and the county ranks 1,796 of 3,141 counties when calculating the total change in county population across the US.
