Demographic Profile for Washington County, Minnesota

Washington County, Minnesota has a population that is made up of 88.4 percent White, 2.9 percent African American, 4.2 percent Asian, and 2.6 percent Hispanic. The area can be described as having a modest amount of racial and ethnic diversity, with 9.7 percent of the population made up of minorities. This is less than the State of Minnesota percent of 11.2. Since 2000, Washington has increased in diversity when 5.9 percent of the population were minorities.

In terms of total land area, Washington spans a total of 392 square miles. The land areas has a high average population density of 563 persons per square mile. Washington County, Minnesota had a population that was estimated at 220,426 in 2005. The total population has increased sharply, from the population in the year 2000 of 202,654. This growth represents an increase of 8.8 percent. Washington ranks 5 of 87 counties by growth in total population in Minnesota and the county ranks 202 of 3,141 counties when analyzing total county population change across the nation.
