Higher Education in Olmsted County, Minnesota

From the year 2000, Olmsted has increased in the percent of the total population (+25) with a BA or Higher. The portion of this population has grown by 5.2 percent to a total of 40 percent in 2005. The American Community Survey reports that the proportion of the 2005 population that is highly educated is greater than the State of Minnesota percent of 30.8 and greater than the national percent of 27.2.

Reported by the 2000 Census in Olmsted County, Minnesota, many men in the area have reached the Bachelors Degree or Higher category, with 37.8 percent reaching this education level. The female population in Olmsted have attainment on average a lower level of higher education (Bachelors or Higher) than the men in the area: 37.8 percent (Men) versus 31.8 percent (Women). A high proportion of the female population in the area has reached the Some College or Associates Degree category, with 35.4 percent of the women population in the area achieving this level of education.

From 2000 to 2005, the percent of male population that is highly educated has increased by 2.2 percent. By the year 2005, 40.2 percent of area's male population (+25) achieved a BA or Higher. During the same period, the percent of women (+25) that have earned a BA or higher has increased by a total of 8.2 percent. Olmsted County, Minnesota has a very highly-educated population, with 34.8 percent of the over 25 years old population having a Bachelors Degree or Higher, according to the 2000 Decennial Census. Olmsted is reported having a higher percent of population with this high education level than the State of Minnesota's proportion of 27.4 percent and a higher percent than United States proportion of 24.4 percent.

In Olmsted County, Minnesota as reported in the 2000 Census, 34.6 percent of the White Alone, 16.8 percent of Black or African American, 54.2 percent of the Asian alone and 14.6 percent of the Hispanic or Latino population, over the age 25, has achieved a Bachelors Degree or Higher.
