Income and Poverty in Goodhue County, Minnesota

When put side-by-side with other counties (or parishes) throughout the United States, Goodhue County, Minnesota can be considered to have a very low poverty rate amongst the population, with a poverty rate of 5.7 percent of the population with family incomes below the 1999 poverty level. The Black or African American race/ethnicity population category, holds the highest rate of poverty with 38.1 percent of the population in 2000 living in poverty. Individuals aged 75 years and over have the largest percent of population in poverty in Goodhue County, accounting 11.7 percent of this age cohort living in poverty.

Compared to counties across the United States, Goodhue County was reported to have a relatively high household income of $54,957 (2005 Dollars). The income level is 0.3 percent lower than the median income in State of Minnesota of $55,120 and this is 10.6 percent higher than the median household income level in the US of $49,133.

Hispanic headed households in Goodhue County, Minnesota , according to the 2000 census, had a median household income of $42,413, this median household income is 22.8 percent less than the areas median income level for all households. In Goodhue County, Minnesota White headed households reported a median household income (2005 Dollars) of $55,057 according to the 2000 Dencennial Census, which was 0.2 percent greater than the median household income in 2000. Black or African American householders reported household income levels that were 39.5 percent less than the overall reported level in 2000, with a reported median of $33,239. The American Indian and Alaska Native headed households in Goodhue County reported an income level of $57,769, this level was 5.1 percent greater than the median level for total households in the area. According to the 2000 Census, the Asian headed households in the area have median household incomes of $48,750. This household income level is 11.3 percent less than the reported median for all households in the area.
