Income and Poverty in Dakota County, Minnesota

When compared to other counties (and parishes) throughout the United States, Dakota County had a very high median household income of $72,380 (Adjusted to 2005 Dollars). This is 23.8 percent higher than the household income median in State of Minnesota of $55,120 and the median household income is 32.1 percent higher than the median household income in the United States of $49,133.

Demographic Profile for Dakota County, Minnesota

Dakota County, Minnesota had a population of 383,592 in 2005. The total population has increased sharply, since its 2000 population of 357,886. This growth signifies an increase of 7.2 percent. Dakota ranks 2 of 87 counties in terms of population growth in Minnesota and the county ranks 127 of 3,141 counties when analyzing total county population change across the nation.

Dakota County, Minnesota has a population that is comprised of 86.3 percent White, 3.6 percent African American, 3.9 percent Asian, and 4 percent Hispanic. The population mix can be considered to have a modest amount of racial and ethnic diversity, with 11.5 percent of the population made up of minorities. This is greater than the State of Minnesota percent of 11.2. Since 2000, Dakota has increased the percent of minority makeup when 8.3 percent of the population were minorities.
