Demographic Profile for Lincoln County, North Carolina

Estimated since the year 2000, a very high number of individual migrated to the Lincoln from outside the country. The immigration into Lincoln makes up 0.9 percent of the total international migration into the State of North Carolina. This level of international migration can be considered very high when compared to international migration per 2005 population.

Lincoln County, North Carolina had a total estimated population of 69,851 in 2005. The estimated population has increased sharply, since the population in 2000 of 64,049. This growth signifies an increase of 9.1 percent. Lincoln ranks 25 of 100 counties in terms of population growth in North Carolina and the county ranks 460 of 3,141 counties when calculating the total change in county population across the US.

By measuring total land area, Lincoln spans a total area of 299 total square miles. The area has a medium-high average area density of 234 persons per square mile. In 2005, the Census Bureau estimated the median age in Lincoln County, North Carolina to be 37.3 years of age. The median age in Lincoln is greater than the median in North Carolina of 36.2. Since the year 2000, the area has seen an increase in this median, when at that time it was 36.5 years of age. With 24.8 percent of the 2005 population being comprised of individuals under the age of 18, Lincoln can be described as having a medium-high proportion of youths. The working age population group (18-64) has a medium-high representation within the estimated 2005 area population, making up 63.4 percent of the population makes up this age category. Lincoln County, North Carolina has a population that is comprised of 84.7 percent White, 6 percent African American, 0.4 percent Asian, and 8.1 percent Hispanic. The area population base can be described as having a modest level of racial and ethnic diversity, with 14.5 percent of the population being minorities. This is less than the State of North Carolina percent of 29.6. Since 2000, Lincoln has increased the percent of minority makeup when 12.5 percent of the people were minorities.
