Beaufort County Five-Year Industry Employment Change

Employment for all industries has decreased by 0.9 percent since the 2nd Quarter figures of 2001. This change is greater than percent in the State of North Carolina, which experienced a gain of 1.9 percent from 2001 (2nd Quarter). The losses the area experienced were greater than than the gain seen for the United States of 2.6 percent.

The Furniture stores industry has lost the largest amount of employment in terms of percentage, losing 66.7 percent of the jobs from the 2nd quarter of 2001 to 2nd quarter of 2006. Income and Poverty in Beaufort County, North Carolina

Beaufort County, North Carolina has a population base that is comprised of 67.5 percent White, 27.9 percent African American, 0.3 percent Asian, and 3.8 percent Hispanic. The area can be described as having a high level of diversity in terms of race and ethnicity, with 32.0 percent of the population made up of minorities. This is greater than the State of North Carolina percent of 29.6. Since 2000, Beaufort has decreased the percent of minority makeup when 32.5 percent of the total population were minorities.

In terms of total land area, Beaufort covers a total land area of 828 square miles. This area has a medium-low density of 56 persons per square mile.
