Income and Poverty in Stark County, North Dakota

When compared to other counties (or parishes) across the United States, Stark County, North Dakota can be considered to have a medium-low poverty rate amid the residents with a poverty rate of 12.3 percent with a family income under the 1999 poverty level. The Hispanic race/ethnicity population category, holds the highest rate of poverty with 30 percent of the population in 2000 living in poverty. Individuals aged 75 years and over have the largest percent of population in poverty in Stark County, accounting 21.9 percent of this age cohort living in poverty.

When analyzed against other counties (and parishes) in the US, Stark County reported a medium-low median income for all households of $38,055 (Adjusted to 2005 Dollars). In Stark County, North Dakota White headed households reported household income (in 2005 Dollars) of $38,140 according to the 2000 Dencennial Census, which was 0.2 percent greater than the median household income in 2000. Black or African American headed households had median income levels that were 3.8 percent greater than the overall reported level in 2000, with a reported median of $39,488. Hispanic headed households in Stark County, North Dakota , as reported in 2000, had a median household income of $30,503, this median is 19.8 percent less than reported value of the areas total household median income for all households. According to the 2000 Census, the Asian headed households in the area have median household incomes of $71,175. This household income level is 87 percent greater than the all households reported median in the area. The households that were headed by an American Indian and Alaska Native individual in Stark County reported a median household income of $34,473, which was 9.4 percent less than the median for all households.
