Income and Poverty in Middlesex County, New Jersey

When put side-by-side with other counties (or parishes) throughout the United States, Middlesex County, New Jersey can be recognized as having a rate of poverty among the people, accounting a rate of 6.6 percent with a family income under the 1999 poverty level. The American Indian and Alaska Native race/ethnicity population cohort, has the uppermost poverty rate with 18.6 percent of the 2000 residents living in poverty. People aged 5 years have the most percent of people living in poverty in Middlesex County, having 8.6 percent of this age cohort living in poverty.

The household income has declined from the inflation-adjusted values in 2000. The income level has decreased to $68,080, posting a 5.3 percent decline. Middlesex County, New Jersey, in terms of percentage of decline, ranks 7 of 17 counties in percent of decline for income levels in the State of New Jersey. Middlesex County ranks 448 of 668 counties (or parishes) in terms of the decline in median income level for the United States.

Black or African American householders reported a median household income that was 7.4 percent less than the all population median published in the 2000 Census, with a median of $66,606.
