Income and Poverty in Mercer County, New Jersey

Higher Education in Mercer County, New Jersey

In Mercer County, New Jersey according the 2000 Decennial Census, 38.2 percent of the White Alone, 12.8 percent of Black or African American, 72.2 percent of the Asian alone and 11.6 percent of the Hispanic or Latino population (over 25) has obtained a Bachelors Degree or Higher.

Demographic Profile for Mercer County, New Jersey

In the year 2005, the population division of U.S. Census Bureau estimates the median age in Mercer County, New Jersey to be 36.6 years of age. The median in Mercer is less than the median age for the State of New Jersey of 38.0. Since 2000, the area has experienced an increase in the median, when the median age was 36.1 years of age. With a total of 23.9 percent of the population in 2005 being comprised of children and youth younger than 18, Mercer can be described as having a medium-high proportion of youths. The 18 to 64 years old population group has a medium-high representation within the population, making up 64 percent of the population makes up this age category. The retirement (65 and over) age group comprises 12 percent of the population. When compared to other counties in the United States, this represents a medium-low proportion of the area population base.

When calculating the total land area, Mercer spans a total area of 226 square miles. This area has a very high average area density of 1,621 persons per square mile. Housing Report for Mercer County, New Jersey

The residential housing values in Mercer County, New Jersey have increased sharply from the real estate values reported in 2000. The valuations have increased by $130,300, or 88.4 percent, since their values in that year of $147,400.

Management of companies and enterprises is the industry that has seen the largest increase in jobs from the year 2001 to the present in Mercer County, increasing in size by 85.6 percent.
