Income and Poverty in Union County, New Jersey

The households that were headed by an American Indian and Alaska Native individual in Union County had a median household income level of $59,414, this median was 8.2 percent less than the median income level in this area. Black or African American headed households had a median household income that was 17.4 percent less than the total 2000 reported median, with a their median reported to be $53,491. Hispanic Householders in Union County, New Jersey recorded a median income of $48,918, which is 24.4 percent less than reported value of the areas total household median income for all households. The Asian householders in the area have reported their median household incomes at $87,846. Higher Education in Union County, New Jersey

In 2000, the Census reported that in Union County, New Jersey, a high proportion of the male population in the area have reached the Bachelors Degree or Higher category, with 30.8 percent receiving this level of education. The women in Union have attainment on average a lower level of higher education (Bachelors or Higher) than men -- 30.8 percent (Men) versus 26.6 percent (Women). Many of the women in the area have achieved the High School Diploma category, with 31 percent of the women population in the area achieving this level of education.

In Union County, New Jersey according to the Decennial Census of 2000, 31.8 percent of the White Alone, 16.6 percent of Black or African American, 61.2 percent of the Asian alone and 12.6 percent of the Hispanic or Latino population, over the age 25, has achieved at least a Bachelors Degree.

From 2000 to 2005, the percent of male population that is highly educated has increased by 4.4 percent. In the year 2005, 35.4 percent of area's male population (+25) achieved a BA or Higher. In Union County, there were a total of 195,112 housing units in the year 2005. This represents a growth in housing units, adding all together 1,819 housing units since the year 2001, or 0.9 percent.
