In Los Alamos County, jobs in the office administrative services pay the highest wages

Income and Poverty in Los Alamos County, New Mexico

In Los Alamos County, New Mexico White headed households reported a median household income (2005 Dollars) of $93,661 according to the Decennial Census of 2000, which was 1.3 percent greater than the median in the year 2000. Black or African American householders reported household income levels that were 59.6 percent less than the overall reported level in 2000, with a reported median of $37,294. Hispanic households in Los Alamos County, New Mexico recorded a median income of $76,613, this median is 17.1 percent less than the areas median income level for all households. Demographic Profile for Los Alamos County, New Mexico

Los Alamos County, New Mexico had a total estimated population of 18,822 in the year 2005. The population has increased, since the 2000 total population of 18,287. This growth represents an increase of 2.9 percent. Los Alamos ranks 15 of 33 counties in terms of population growth in New Mexico and the county ranks 1,375 of 3,141 counties when calculating the total change in county population across the US.

Los Alamos County, New Mexico has a population base that is comprised of 79 percent White, 0.5 percent African American, 4.9 percent Asian, and 13.3 percent Hispanic. This area can be considered to have a high level of diversity in terms of race and ethnicity, with 18.7 percent of minorities in the 2005 population base. This is less than the State of New Mexico percent of 46.4. Since 2000, Los Alamos has increased in diversity when 16.2 percent of the people were minorities.
