From the second quarter of 2001 to the second quarter of 2006, industry wages have increased in San Juan County, New Mexico by a total of 22.8%. This is greater than the growth in wages for the State of New Mexico and greater than the growth in average wages for the US.

San Juan County Five-Year Percentage Decline in Employment

The Highway, street, and bridge construction industry has seen the largest percentage drop in employment, losing 82.9 percent of the jobs from 2001 to 2006. These have declined faster than the industry sector has felt in the State of New Mexico, where the industry felt a loss of 3.5 percent. The losses in the Highway, street, and bridge construction industry in San Juan County outpaced the US in terms of percent of decline of industry employment. Income and Poverty in San Juan County, New Mexico

The rate of poverty in San Juan County, New Mexico has declined by 5.3 percent since the 2000 rates, moving from 21.5 percent to 16.2 percent.

The median household income in the area has declined from the values (adjusted for inflation) in 2000. The median has decreased to $36,047, which amounts to a 8.7 percent decline. Higher Education in San Juan County, New Mexico

In San Juan County, New Mexico as reported in the Census of the year 2000, 18.8 percent of the White Alone, 27.6 percent of Black or African American, 28.8 percent of the Asian alone and 6.6 percent of the Hispanic or Latino population (over 25) has obtained a Bachelors Degree or Higher.

San Juan County, New Mexico can be considered to have a moderately-educated 2000 population, with 13.6 percent of the population over 25 years old having received at least a Bachelors Degree, according to the Decennial Census of 2000. San Juan is reported having a lower percent of population with this high education level than the State of New Mexico's proportion of 23.4 percent and a lower percent than the average across the nation of 24.4 percent.

Reported by the 2000 Census in San Juan County, New Mexico, a high proportion of the male population in the area have reached the High School Diploma category, with 32.6 percent obtaining this level of education. The women in San Juan on average have achieved a lower level of higher education (Bachelors or Higher) than men; 14 percent (Men) versus 13 percent (Women). Housing Report for San Juan County, New Mexico

In San Juan County, the real estate market was made up of 44,630 housing units in the year 2005. This represents a growth in housing units, adding all together 834 residential units since 2001, or 1.9 percent.

Administrative and waste services since the year 2001 lost the most jobs in San Juan County. The industry was hit with a loss of 197 jobs during the period, or 13.8 percent of employment in the sector. These losses made up 48.6 percent of all county employment losses since 2001.
