Income and Poverty in Sandoval County, New Mexico

The poverty rate in Sandoval County, New Mexico has declined by 0.8 percent since the 2000 rates, moving from 12.1 percent to 11.3 percent.

From 2000, Sandoval has increased in the percent of the population that is over the age of 25 with a BA or Higher. This population cohort has grown by 1.8 percent to a total of 26.6 percent in 2005. According to the American Community Survey, the proportion of the population in 2005 with a BA or Higher is greater than the State of New Mexico percent of 25.2 and less than the national percent of 27.2.

Demographic Profile for Sandoval County, New Mexico

Sandoval County, New Mexico has a population that is made of 49.5 percent White, 1.7 percent African American, 1 percent Asian, and 31.5 percent Hispanic. The area population base can be described as having a high amount of racial and ethnic diversity, with 34.2 percent of minorities in the 2005 population base. This is less than the State of New Mexico percent of 46.4. Since 2000, Sandoval has increased the level of diversity when 32.0 percent of the total population were minorities.

The population division of the Census Bureau estimates in 2005 a median age in Sandoval County, New Mexico to be 36.4 years of age. The median in Sandoval is greater than the median age in the State of New Mexico of 36.2.
