Sierra County Wages have increased by 15.4% Since 2001

From the second quarter of 2001 to the second quarter of 2006, industry wages have increased in Sierra County, New Mexico by a total of 15.4%. This is less than the growth in wages for the State of New Mexico and less than the growth in industry wages for the nation as a whole.

Sierra County Five-Year Percentage Decline in Employment

The Drinking places, alcoholic beverages industry has seen the largest percentage drop in employment, losing 75.6 percent of the jobs from 2001 to 2006. Income and Poverty in Sierra County, New Mexico

Black or African American headed households had a median household income that was 12 percent less than the all population median published in the 2000 Census, with a median of $24,863. The Asian headed households reported median household incomes of $42,413. This income level is 50.1 percent greater than the reported median household income for all households in the area. Hispanic in Sierra County, New Mexico reported a median household income of $25,297, this median is 10.5 percent less than the areas median income level for all households. The American Indian and Alaska Native headed households in Sierra County reported a median household income of $13,393, which was 52.6 percent less than the median for all households. In Sierra County, New Mexico White headed households reported a median household income (2005 Dollars) of $28,502 according to the 2000 Dencennial Census, which was 0.9 percent greater than the median in 2000.

Higher Education in Sierra County, New Mexico

According to the 2000 Decennial Census in Sierra County, New Mexico, a high proportion of the male population in the area have reached the Some College or Associates Degree category, with 32.6 percent obtaining this level of education. The women in Sierra have attainment on average a greater level of higher education (Bachelors Degree or Higher) than the male population-- 12.4 percent (Men) versus 13.8 percent (Women).
