Socorro County, New Mexico has a population that is comprised of 38.6 percent White, 0.7 percent African American, 1.6 percent Asian, and 46.8 percent Hispanic. This area can be considered to have a very high level of racial and ethnic diversity, with 49.1 percent of the population being minorities. This is greater than the State of New Mexico percent of 46.4. Since 2000, Socorro has decreased the percent of minority makeup when 50.6 percent of the people were minorities.
