In Albany County, jobs in the spectator sports pay the highest wages

Income and Poverty in Albany County, New York

The poverty rate in Albany County, New York has increased by 1.5 percent from the rates reported in the Decennial Census, moving from 10.6 percent to 12.1 percent.

The median household income has declined a small amount from the inflation-adjusted values in 2000. The income level has decreased to $50,054, representing a 0.4 percent decline. Albany County, New York has a very highly-educated working age population, with 33.4 percent of the over 25 years old population having a Bachelors Degree or Higher, according to the 2000 Decennial Census. Albany has a higher percent of the population with at least a Bachelors than the State of New York's proportion of 27.4 percent and a higher percent than the average across the nation of 24.4 percent.

Albany County, New York had an estimated population of 297,414 in 2005. The total population has increased, since the 2000 total population of 294,573. This growth shows an increase of 1 percent. Albany ranks 17 of 62 counties when analyzing total population change in New York and the county ranks 685 of 3,141 counties when analyzing total county population change across the nation.
