Income and Poverty in Chemung County, New York

In Chemung County, New York as reported in the 2000 Census, 19 percent of the White Alone, 9.8 percent of Black or African American, 53.8 percent of the Asian alone and 10.4 percent of the Hispanic or Latino (+25) population has achieved at least a Bachelors Degree.

Chemung County, New York has a moderately-educated working age population, with 18.6 percent of the population (+25) having received at least a Bachelors Degree, as reported in the Decennial Census of 2000. Chemung has a lower percent of the population with at least a Bachelors than the State of New York's proportion of 27.4 percent and a lower percent than the national average of 24.4 percent.

From 2000 to 2005, the percent of the male population that can be considered highly educated has increased by 0.6 percent.
