Income and Poverty in Otsego County, New York

The households that were headed by an American Indian and Alaska Native individual in Otsego County reported a median household income of $22,773, this median was 41.8 percent less than the areas median level for all households. In Otsego County, New York White headed households reported a median household income (2005 Dollars) of $39,410 according to the 2000 Dencennial Census, which was 0.7 percent greater than the median in 2000. Higher Education in Otsego County, New York

Otsego County, New York has a highly-educated working age population, with 22 percent of the over 25 years old population having a Bachelors Degree or Higher, according to the 2000 Decennial Census. Otsego is reported having a lower percent of population with this high education level than the State of New York's proportion of 27.4 percent and a lower percent than the average across the nation of 24.4 percent.

Demographic Profile for Otsego County, New York

In 2005, the Census Bureau estimated the median age in Otsego County, New York to be 37.0 years old. The median age in Otsego is less than the median age in the State of New York of 37.5. From 2000, the area has seen a decline in the median age, when it was 37.2 years old. With a total of 18.9 percent of the 2005 population being comprised of individuals under the age of 18, Otsego can be described as being made up of a relatively low percent of individuals under 18. The working age population group (18-64) has a relatively high presence of the population, with 66.2 percent of the population within the age category. People 65 years old and older make up 14.9 percent of the total population base. Compared to other counties throughout the nation, this represents a medium-low percent of the population.

Employment Report for Otsego County, New York -- Annual 2005 Industry Summary

In Otsego County, Health care and social assistance, Retail Trade, and the Accommodation and food services sectors are the largest industries, in terms of total number of jobs in 2005. The Health care and social assistance is the largest employment industry and makes up 26.1 percent of the total county employment. This totals 5,067 jobs. The Retail Trade and Accommodation and food services industries make up 17.3 and 13 percent of the total jobs, respectively.

Educational services is the industry with the largest establishments in Otsego County, with the industry averaging 83 jobs per establishment, which is greater than the industry's average in the United States of 27 and greater than the State of New York establishments size average of 42 for the Educational services industry.
