Higher Education in Lake County, Ohio

Lake County, Ohio can be considered to have a highly-educated 2000 population, with 21.6 percent of the over 25 years old population having a Bachelors Degree or Higher, according to the 2000 Decennial Census. Lake was reported to have a higher percent of highly educated individuals than the State of Ohio's proportion of 21 percent and a lower percent than the average across the nation of 24.4 percent.

Reported by the 2000 Census in Lake County, Ohio, the most common level of education achieved in the area for the male population is the High School Diploma category, with 32.8 percent obtaining this level of education. The women in Lake have on average achieved a lower level of higher education (Bachelors or Higher) than men; 23.8 percent (Men) versus 19.4 percent (Women). The largest educational attainment category for women in this areas is High School Diploma category, with 35.8 percent of the areas female population attaining this level of education.

In Lake County, Ohio as reported in the Census of the year 2000, 21.4 percent of the White Alone, 13.2 percent of Black or African American, 55 percent of the Asian alone and 14.2 percent of the Hispanic or Latino population, over the age 25, has achieved at least a Bachelors Degree.

Between 2000 and 2005, the percent of the male population that can be understood as highly educated has increased by 1.4 percent. In the year 2005, 25.4 percent of the total male population, in the area, has obtained at least a Bachelors Degree. From 2000 to 2005, the percent of women with a Bachelors or Higher has increased by a total of 2.6 percent. By 2005, a total of 22 percent of the female population had achieved this level of education.
