Higher Education in the Youngstown-Warren-Boardman, OH-PA Metro Area

Since 2000, the Youngstown-Warren-Boardman metro area has increased in the population percent with a Bachelors of Higher. This population percent has grown by 0.2 percent to a total of 17.4 percent in 2005. According to the American Community Survey, the proportion of the population in 2005 with a BA or Higher is less than the State of Ohio percent of 23.4 and less than the average US percent of 27.2.

In the Youngstown-Warren-Boardman, OH-PA Metro Area according to the American Community Survey of 2005, 18.2 percent of the White Alone, 8.4 percent of Black or African American, . percent of the Asian alone and 15.2 percent of the Hispanic or Latino population, over the age 25, has achieved a Bachelors Degree or Higher.

Youngstown-Warren-Boardman, OH-PA Metro Area can be considered to have a moderately-educated working age population, with 17.4 percent of the population (+25) having received at least a Bachelors Degree, as reported in the 2005 American Community Survey. The Youngstown-Warren-Boardman MSA has a lower percent of highly educated individuals than the State of Ohio's proportion of 23.4 percent and a lower percent than the national average of 27.2 percent.

In 2005, the American Community Survey reported that in the Youngstown-Warren-Boardman, OH-PA Metro Area, the largest educational attainment category for men is the High School Diploma category, with 43.8 percent receiving this level of education. The women in the Youngstown-Warren-Boardman metro area have attainment on average a lower level of higher education (Bachelors Degree or Higher) than the male population-- 18.2 percent (Men) versus 16.6 percent (Women). Many of the women in the area achieving a High School Diploma category, with 44.2 percent of women in the area reaching this education level.

From 2000 to 2005, the percent of the male population that can be considered highly educated has increased by 0.2 percent. As reported in 2005, 18.2 percent of area's male population, over the age 25, achieved a Bachelors Degree or Higher. At the same time, the percent of women, over the age 25, holding at least a Bachelors Degree has stayed the same by a total of 0.0 percent. By 2005, a total of 16.6 percent of the female population having received at least a Bachelors Degree.
