Higher Education in Medina County, Ohio

In Medina County, Ohio as reported in the 2000 Census, 24.6 percent of the White Alone, 13.4 percent of Black or African American, 55.2 percent of the Asian alone and 27.4 percent of the Hispanic or Latino population (over 25) has obtained a Bachelors Degree or Higher.

From 2000, Medina has increased in the percent of the population that is over the age of 25 with a BA or Higher. This population cohort has grown by 4.4 percent to a total of 29.2 percent in 2005, according to the American Community Survey. The 2005 proportion of highly educated population is greater than the 2005 State of Ohio percent of 23.4 and greater than the national percent of 27.2.

In 2000, the Census reported that in Medina County, Ohio, many men in the area have reached the High School Diploma category, with 34.2 percent obtaining this level of education. The women in Medina have achieved a lower level of higher education (Bachelors or Higher) than men; 27 percent (Men) versus 22.8 percent (Women). The largest educational attainment category for women in this areas is High School Diploma category, with 38.4 percent of women in the area reaching this education level.

From 2000 to 2005, the percent of male population that is highly educated has increased by 3.6 percent. In the year 2005, 30.6 percent of total male population (over 25), in this area, held at least a Bachelors Degree. At the same time, the percent of women (over 25) holding a BA or higher has increased by a total of 5.0 percent. By 2005, a total of 27.8 percent of the women in the population had received a Bachelors Degree or Higher.

Medina County, Ohio is made up of a highly-educated population of the working age, with 24.8 percent of the population (+25) having received a BA or higher, as reported the 2000 Decennial Census. Medina has a higher percent of the population with at least a Bachelors than the State of Ohio's proportion of 21 percent and a higher percent than the US proportion of 24.4 percent.
