Income and Poverty in Delaware County, Ohio

It was reported in 2000 that the Asian headed households had median household incomes of $98,433. This median is 25.1 percent greater than the reported median household income for all households in the area. Hispanic headed households in Delaware County, Ohio recorded a median income of $59,963, this median household income is 23.8 percent less than reported value of the areas total household median income for all households. Black or African American headed households had median income levels that were 11.2 percent less than the all population median published in the 2000 Census, with a median of $69,875. Since the year 2000, Delaware has increased in the percent of the population that is over the age of 25 with a BA or Higher. This population cohort has grown by 7.4 percent to a total of 48.4 percent in 2005, according to the American Community Survey. The 2005 proportion of highly educated population is greater than the State of Ohio percent of 23.4 and greater than the United States percent of 27.2.

According to the 2000 Decennial Census in Delaware County, Ohio, the most common level of education achieved in the area for the male population is the Bachelors Degree or Higher category, with 45.6 percent receiving this level of education. The women in Delaware have achieved a lower level of higher education (Bachelors Degree or Higher) than the male population-- 45.6 percent (Men) versus 36.8 percent (Women). Many of the women in the area have achieved the Bachelors Degree or Higher category, with 36.8 percent of the female population achieving this education level.

From 2000 to 2005, the percent of male population that is highly educated has increased by 6.2 percent. In the year 2005, 52.2 percent of area's male population (+25) achieved a BA or Higher. During the same period, the percent of women (+25) that have earned a BA or higher has increased by a total of 8.2 percent. By the year 2005, a total of 45 percent of the female population having received at least a Bachelors Degree.

Delaware County, Ohio can be considered to have a very highly-educated 2000 population, with 41 percent of the over 25 years old population having a Bachelors Degree or Higher, according to the 2000 Decennial Census. Demographic Profile for Delaware County, Ohio

When calculating the total land area, Delaware encompasses a total area of 442 square miles. The county has a medium-high average area density of 340 persons per square mile. Delaware County, Ohio has a population that is made of 89.8 percent White, 3.5 percent African American, 3.5 percent Asian, and 1.6 percent Hispanic.
