Income and Poverty in Mahoning County, Ohio

From the year 2000, Mahoning has increased in the total percent of the over 25 population having a Bachelors Degree or Higher. This population group has grown by 1.4 percent to a total of 18.8 percent in 2005. The American Community Survey reports that the proportion of the 2005 population that is highly educated is less than the 2005 State of Ohio percent of 23.4 and less than the national percent of 27.2.

The 2000 Decennial Census reported that in Mahoning County, Ohio, many men in the area have reached the High School Diploma category, with 38.4 percent receiving this level of education. The women in Mahoning on average have achieved a lower level of higher education (Bachelors or Higher) than the men in the area: 19.4 percent (Men) versus 15.8 percent (Women). The most common level of education for women in the area is High School Diploma category, with 41.6 percent of the areas female population attaining this level of education.

Demographic Profile for Mahoning County, Ohio

Since 2000, a low amount of people migrated to Mahoning from another country. The international migration into Mahoning makes up 0.8 percent of the total migration into the State of Ohio. This amount of international migration is low when comparing levels of immigration per population in 2005.
