Higher Education in Chester County, Pennsylvania

Reported by the 2000 Census in Chester County, Pennsylvania, a high proportion of the male population in the area have reached the Bachelors Degree or Higher category, with 45.6 percent obtaining this level of education. The women in Chester on average have achieved a lower level of higher education (Bachelors or Higher) than men; 45.6 percent (Men) versus 39.6 percent (Women). In Chester County, Pennsylvania as reported in the Census of the year 2000, 43.8 percent of the White Alone, 17.4 percent of Black or African American, 70.4 percent of the Asian alone and 16.6 percent of the Hispanic or Latino population, over the age 25, has achieved at least a Bachelors Degree.

From 2000 to 2005, the percent of the male population that can be considered highly educated has increased by 2.6 percent. During the same period, the percent of women (+25) that have earned a BA or higher has increased by a total of 3.8 percent. By 2005, a total of 43.4 percent of the women in the population had received a Bachelors Degree or Higher.

The portion of this population has grown by 3.6 percent to a total of 46 percent in 2005, as reported by the American Community Survey. The proportion of the 2005 population having received at least a BA is greater than the State of Pennsylvania percent of 25.6 and greater than the average US percent of 27.2.
