In Carbon County, jobs in the offices of physicians pay the highest wages

Employment in the offices of physicians industry reported the top wages in Carbon County for the 2nd quarter of 2006. The average worker in the industry in Carbon County earned an annual wage of $57,553 in 2nd quarter of 2006. The pay is less than the industry pay the State of Pennsylvania of $67,501 and less than then the pay for jobs in this industry across the nation of $64,740.

Income and Poverty in Carbon County, Pennsylvania

Compared to other counties (and parishes) throughout the nation, Carbon County was reported to have a medium-high median income for all households of $41,082 (Adjusted to 2005 Dollars). This is 14.2 percent lower than the median in Pennsylvania of $46,924 and the median is 19.6 percent lower than the median household income level in the US of $49,133.

In Carbon County, Pennsylvania White headed households reported a median household income (2005 Dollars) of $41,072 as reported in 2000 by the census, which was only slightly less than the median in 2000. Higher Education in Carbon County, Pennsylvania

In 2000, the Census reported that in Carbon County, Pennsylvania, many men in the area have reached the High School Diploma category, with 47.8 percent receiving this level of education. The women in Carbon have achieved a lower level of higher education (Bachelors Degree or Higher) than the male population-- 11.2 percent (Men) versus 10.8 percent (Women). Many of the women in the area have achieved the High School Diploma category, with 48 percent of women in the area reaching this education level.

Carbon County, Pennsylvania is made up of a less-educated working age population, with 11 percent of the over 25 years old population having a Bachelors Degree or Higher, according to the 2000 Decennial Census. Demographic Profile for Carbon County, Pennsylvania

From 2000, a low amount of people have migrated to Carbon internationally. The migration from outside the US into Carbon totals 0.1 percent of the total migration into the State of Pennsylvania. This amount of international migration is low when analyzed against immigration per population in 2005.

Carbon County, Pennsylvania has a population that is comprised of 95.9 percent White, 1 percent African American, 0.4 percent Asian, and 2.1 percent Hispanic. The population mix can be considered to have a very modest level of racial and ethnic diversity, with 3.5 percent minorities. This is less than the State of Pennsylvania percent of 16.4. Since 2000, Carbon has increased the percent of minority makeup when 2.4 percent of the people were minorities.

In 2005, the Census Bureau estimated the median age in Carbon County, Pennsylvania to be 41.0 years old. The median in Carbon is greater than the median age in the State of Pennsylvania of 39.7. Carbon County had an owner-occupied dwelling median in 2000 of $82,100, reported by the Decennial Census. This value is less than the overall State of Pennsylvania 2000 home value of $97,000 and less than home value of $119,600 across the nation during that year.

Employment Report for Carbon County, Pennsylvania -- Annual 2005 Industry Summary

In Carbon County, Health care and social assistance, Retail Trade, and the Manufacturing industries are the largest employment industries. The Health care and social assistance is the major employer in the county making up 17.5 percent of all jobs throughout the county, totaling 2,394 individuals. The Retail Trade and Manufacturing sectors account for 17.4 and 15.5 percent of all employment.

Manufacturing since the year 2001 lost the most jobs in Carbon County. The sector dealt with a loss of 696 jobs during the period, or 24.8 percent of the employment in the industry. This made up a total of 49.9 percent of all county employment losses since 2001.
