In the State of Pennsylvania, &lt;I&gt;White&lt;/I&gt; headed households reported a median household income (2005 Dollars) of $48,721 according to the Decennial Census of 2000, which was 3.8 percent greater than the median in the year 2000. &lt;I&gt;Black or African American&lt;/I&gt; headed households had a median household income that was 31.6 percent less than the all population median published in the 2000 Census, with a median of $32,076. &lt;I&gt;Hispanic&lt;/I&gt; in Pennsylvaniarecorded a median income of $31,508, this median household income is 32.9 percent less than the reported median household income for all households in the area.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Compared to other States throughout the nation, the State of Pennsylvania had a medium-low median income for households of $46,924 (Adjusted to 2005 Dollars). This figure is 4.7 percent lower than the median household income level in the US of $49,133.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The poverty rate in the State of Pennsylvania has increased by 0.9 percent since the amount published in 2000, moving from 11 percent to 11.9 percent.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;As the median income level saw a decline from 2000 to 2005 in the State of Pennsylvania, the Race/Ethnicity category that saw the sharpest decline in the household income level was the &lt;I&gt;American Indian and Alaska Native&lt;/I&gt; Race/Ethnicity category. This group experienced a decline of 34.2 percent since the year 2000. The &lt;I&gt;White&lt;/I&gt; population category was least influenced by the median household income decline in Pennsylvania, seeing a 46.4 percent increase in median income, since the values reporting the 2000 Decennial Census.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;When put side-by-side with other States throughout the United States, the State of Pennsylvania may be understood as having a medium-low poverty rate amongst the population, with a poverty rate of 11.0 percent of the individuals existing in families with incomes under the poverty level in 1999. The &lt;I&gt;Hispanic&lt;/I&gt; race/ethnicity demographic group, represents the largest rate of poverty with 31.4 percent of the 2000 population living in poverty. The female population in the Pennsylvania have attainment on average a lower level of higher education &lt;I&gt;(Bachelors or Higher)&lt;/I&gt; than men; 27.6 percent (Men) versus 24  percent (Women). Many of the women in the area achieving a &lt;i&gt; High School Diploma&lt;/i&gt; category, with 39.6 percent of the areas female population attaining this level of education.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;In the State of Pennsylvania according the 2005 American Community Survey, 26.4 percent of the &lt;I&gt;White Alone&lt;/I&gt;, 14.8 percent of &lt;I&gt;Black or African American&lt;/I&gt;, 52.6 percent of the &lt;I&gt;Asian alone&lt;/I&gt; and 13.8 percent of the &lt;I&gt;Hispanic or Latino&lt;/I&gt; (+25) population has achieved at least a Bachelors Degree.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Pennsylvania may to understood as having a moderately-educated population, with 25.6 percent of the over 25 years old population having a Bachelors Degree or Higher, according to the 2005 American Community Survey.
