Income and Poverty in Providence County, Rhode Island

Hispanic headed households in Providence County, Rhode Island reported a median household income of $25,796, which is 40.3 percent less than reported value of the areas total household median income for all households. The American Indian and Alaska Native householders in Providence County reported an income level of $23,949, this was 44.6 percent less than the median level for total households in the area. In Providence County, Rhode Island White headed households reported a median household income (2005 Dollars) of $46,671 according to the 2000 Dencennial Census, which was 8 percent greater than the median income in 2000. Black or African American headed households had a median household income that was 35.8 percent less than the overall reported level in 2000, with a reported median of $27,755. The Asian householders in the area have reported their median household incomes at $37,893. This household income level is 12.3 percent less than the reported median household income for all households in the area.

The rate of poverty in Providence County, Rhode Island has increased by 0.7 percent since the 2000 rates, moving from 15.5 percent to 16.2 percent.

While household income level experienced a growth from 2000 to 2005 in Providence County, Rhode Island, the Race/Ethnicity category that saw the sharpest growth in median household income was the Asian Race/Ethnicity category.
